Teresa Tomeo and Father Tad discuss recent proposed legislation in Massachusetts that would encourage and support surrogacy among same-sex partners and others interested in having children outside of marriage. The bill is designed to make same-sex parenting easier and remove assumptions about traditional families, and is moving through the Massachusetts Legislature. The Massachusetts Parentage Equality Act, as the measure is known, is meant to ensure that each member of a same-sex couple has automatic parenting rights concerning a child they begin raising together. They also look at the significant ethical concerns raised by surrogacy and by in vitro fertilization.
